Village Life
We just returned from another week teaching English in the village. We enjoy it more and more each time we are out there- guess you get used to having no toilet and it's just more comfortable for us living in their living room now...we don't feel so much like we are living with strangers or in someone else's house now- it's just our second home :)
We had great fun teaching the kids emotions, and different songs and how to introduce themselves..their name, age, where they are from, what they like to do etc. We really will miss (most) of the village kids very much once we are done out there.
We will be here in the city for quite a while now though- keeping busy with language study and homeschooling etc. David will be heading up north again- more language consulting work. It's spring here now...and a big mess! You can see how bad the roads are in the village, we weren't sure we could find a way back from the village but we did...it was a crazy bumpy adventurous ride back through the mud and trenches. We will need to buy a good off roading vehicle when we are able to buy a car!

English Beauty Pageant
This week I was invited to be on the jury for the beauty pagent at one of the colleges. It was supposed to be last week but they only had 5 girls and they really needed more practice so they had it this week. Still there was only 7 girls this week and they could have used a bit more practice:) They really tried hard and put a lot of effort into it though. It's just too bad that they had to be judged on their English as they really really struggled to speak in English. Even the teachers have a hard time speaking even basic English. It is soooo hard for them here in Tuva to learn because all they have is text books- they don't have English movies, tv, and for sure they don't have English speakers. pageant was pronounced Pigint and Girls sounds more like gulls. That is why they love having us come and speak- about anything! We really enjoyed the day with the girls and hope to be able to spend more time with them in the future. They did great representing their chosen country- they had to pretend they were an english speaker from their country and do a dance/song and prepare food that they would make in that country. The girl that was "Miss Korea" did the best by far in all of the different parts of the competition. They all got some award though as they all worked very hard. Fun day.
