On Sunday, it was nice weather and we finally have our van registered and fixed up a little (starts nicely now :)  so we were able to go for a drive to a different region in Tuva with some of our Tuvan friends.  We went to a sacred/holy spring that the family goes to every year to heal themselves.  there is a spout for eyes, liver, heart, fertility and so on.  We also had Shashlik (like kebabs) and even taught a group of guys (and a few brave girls) how to play canadian football.  It was a great day (though the bugs and ticks were plentiful).  We are so thankful for our van so that we can get out with new friends and relax in the tuvan countryside.

Little Update

Hi!  I know it's been a while :)  I do have an excuse...well almost.  My computer has died so I only have internet access in the evenings after David comes home from the office.  And because I'm not sitting on my computer all day (that is perhaps why it broke josiah says..) I am a lot busier physically and don't get up in the night.  So that is my excuse :)
We have been fairly busy.  In addition to normal language sessions and English Club we have also been helping out at an English Summer Camp.  We also got our van registered and fixed up a bit so we have been off bbqing with friends.  Emma is the busiest one this summer as she is attending a summer camp that her dance school is running.  She goes from 8am-4pm everyday (M through F) till the middle of August!  Crazy!  She LOVES it though... it's exactly what she needs.  She will be speaking better Russian than the rest of us I bet by the end of the summer.  (and hopefully a bit of Tuvan too)
The boys are starting up Russian lessons with a couple of Russian teens that we know. The boys really really like these two girls so it's a great situation.  Normally Josiah and Hudson are fairly shy unless it's an English situation... but with these two girls, both Josiah and Hudson enjoy speaking in Russian.
Later in the summer we will try to live in a yurt again, at least for a few weeks.  But because Emma is busy at her daycamp we won't be travelling around as much as we expected to.  I'm sure David and the boys will go off camping or something though.
You may have heard that we did not get accepted for the 5 year residency permits..this is due to strange paperwork that came up at the last minute so we missed the deadline.  We will apply for the 3 year (like we have now) when we return from our visit home.  We will be coming to Canada from Nov till perhaps July. We are hoping that the kids can attend Canadian school for a semester again...they REALLY enjoyed it last time.  We'll see.  We are looking forward to coming home but it will be difficult to be away from our friends here...  The time we spend in Canada always seems to go by a bit too fast though.
We are already in the heat of the summer..slightly sunburnt from our picnics and I was even bit by a tick last time.  ew.  But we are very thankful for the warmer weather especially now that we have a vehicle. it's so nice to hop in the van and head out to a beach on Saturday's or the evenings.   thanks for checking in on us even when we aren't keeping it up to date so well :)

A visit with old friends...

Some of you might remember these girls from the pictures when we first moved to Tuva.  these girls were Emma's daily playmates at our old apartment but since we've moved we don't get to see them very often.  It is always such a special treat when they walk over here to visit little Emma.  It's amazing really how easily Emma fits in with them, even though they speak a different language and are much older.  So glad that we haven't lost contact with these Tuvan girls.

Emma's First Performance!

Emma had her first performance at the big theatre in town.  Her school only danced one dance and it was a last minute thing so they weren't well practiced but it was such a great experience for Emma.  Even though she was very nervous she danced very well.
