Iceberg Picnic
Today we went for a picnic to get out of the house for a few hours. We took our coworker Bobbie and her two little boys (her husband was busy doing renovations on their apartment) and our friend Saglana. It was really strange to see the huge icechunks that had been pushed up on the riverbank. the kids liked playing on the safe one that was just on the grass. Bobbie and I went and peeked at the river. You can see the hole she fell in :) she liked it so much she went back to it and enjoyed some of her shaslik (shish kabobby things) in it :) We had a great time. Yummy food. Fun with friends. So SO thankful for our van so that we can do stuff like this.
Horseraces
getting ready for the race to begin
we got to see the finish line for the young men's race. this guy was 1st.
2nd place
3rd place
the young boys getting ready for their race 26K
one little boy we know from the village was in the race riding on our friend Saiid's horse
unfortunately the race started before the cars got out of the way...it was scary to watch but thankfully no horses or kids got hurt... our friend Saiid was in the blue car
it was quite a thrilling start...not sure what was more fun to watch...the horses take off or the guys running and jumping into their cars
If you didn't watch the video about the horse here is the scoop... David and Saiid (and various other village men) when out driving in our van looking for Saiid's lost horses. The plan was to return one of the horses to the village by putting the horse in our family van. David was quite pleased that the horse they managed to catch was a small one :) the picture of the horse in the van is a few pics down from here. poor thing travelled well all things considered... but it did toot a few times on the big bumps.
Our van is proving to be very useful.
